Katie Greenbrown is a writer and poet, she writes copy, scripts, spoken word, fiction, experimental films and long letters to friends.

She’s part of York’s ever growing spoken word scene, runs PechKucha on behalf of Artsbarge, and is creating experimental work with Northern Electric – A York Collective.

In this episode we discuss their upcoming WW1 centenary memorial project, taking place in in Rowntrees park, how where you live affects the themes you choose to explore in your work, how art can change your perception on history and heritage, and the all important question of why humans have the drive to create.

Mat Lazenby is a creative director at design agency LazenbyBrown, based on the Shambles, which he co-founded with Gary Brown after working in senior creative positions for a number of agencies across York and Leeds.

As well as working on brand design projects for both local and national brands, Mat is a previous master of the guild of media arts and a champion for creativity, regularly speaking in schools and colleges.

In this episode we chat about education and how you teach children in environments that are constantly changing, about facing your fears and trying to improve the things you’re not good at, as well as York’s UNESCO designation and what that means for the city.
