Drew Wintie-Hawkins is the Co-Director of York Dance Space, an arts organisation set up to develop dance across York and North Yorkshire. With a background as a performer he takes a hands on approach to developing learning programmes in dance, supporting the development of professional artists across the region.

In this episode we chat about the risks he and his wife Hannah took in setting up their own place, how skills learnt in dance can be used both in education and in wider life, and how getting out of your bubble and collaborating with other organisations will improve your art, as well the community as a whole.

Mat Lazenby is a creative director at design agency LazenbyBrown, based on the Shambles, which he co-founded with Gary Brown after working in senior creative positions for a number of agencies across York and Leeds.

As well as working on brand design projects for both local and national brands, Mat is a previous master of the guild of media arts and a champion for creativity, regularly speaking in schools and colleges.

In this episode we chat about education and how you teach children in environments that are constantly changing, about facing your fears and trying to improve the things you’re not good at, as well as York’s UNESCO designation and what that means for the city.
